Strata of blue sky, land, sea stretching across the horizon where the Adriatic Sea meets the straits between the island of Lefkada and the mainland of the Peloponnese. These blues span the light spectrum between 380nm (violet) to 500nm (green), beautifully named colours of azure, cerulean and turquoise evoking a romantic, mystical atmosphere.
The Greek light at midday causes the bands of colour to harden into architectural forms, blocks of colour standing strong and sentinel until a soft breeze ripples the water’s surface as an unseen tide turns.
This landscape resonates with depth, ancient knowledge, battles and songs. Watching the subtle shifts in atmosphere inspired me to work on these themes of all history in a place where travellers and warriors constantly interrupted the rhythms of daily life, leaving questions and dissonance in their wake.
